soc_puppetThere's this Teen Wolf Sterek fic that I've been wanting since the earliest rumors of Jennifer in Season Three. It's basically all I really wanted (and continue to want) out of a "new [het] love interest for Derek" storyline, because Derek deserves nice things, dammit. (Also, I read at least two otherwise well-written fics between the rumors and the start of season three where Derek's new love interest was basically evil and out to seduce him/kill everyone, and it annoyed me. And then it happened in canon, and now it just makes me sad.)
Derek had a life outside of Beacon Hills. This included dating a few people. His most recent girlfriend he broke up with amicably when he found out Laura was killed, based on the fact that he felt the need to go to Beacon Hills and find out/potentially fix what was going on and didn't know how long that would take, so he thought it would be unfair to both of them to close off options. This was smart and emotionally responsible, because he ended up staying in BH, what with all of the shit that was going down.
Fast forward to the present. The Pack is having an altercation with the Monster of the Week, and things are taking a turn for the worse for them when, out of nowhere, Derek's ex-girlfriend shows up and saves their asses.
Derek wonders what his ex is doing there. She explains that she'd been hearing bad rumors about stuff going on in BH, and he hadn't contacted her in a while to say that everything was okay, so she thought she'd better come by and see if he needed any help. Which, hey, turns out he did!
Everyone is instantly in love with Derek's ex (who I'll call Grace, because continuing to define her by her past relationship with Derek is gross). Stiles' feelings are, of course, a bit more complicated than that: He's amazed at how Derek is acting around Grace, because he seems so much more at ease with her around; he's kinda jealous, because Grace knew Derek in that time period when he wasn't in Beacon Hills, which is something Stiles hadn't thought to ask about; he's also jealous because Grace basically made him realize that he's totally into Derek, and wants to see Derek as relaxed and happy as he is around Grace all the time; oh, and he's jealous because Derek is obviously very suited to be with Grace, and will clearly be going back to [New York?] with her just as soon as everything is settled down in BH - which will clearly actually happen sometime soon, because Grace is just that awesome.
But he still can't actually bring himself to hate her. She's got a wicked sense of humor that reminds him of his own, she's kickass as fuck, and Derek is clearly still smitten with her and is just so happy to be around her that Stiles would find himself liking her for that reason alone if he didn't already like her as a person. He thinks it would be kinda like hating Danny if Danny started dating Derek (and allows himself a minute to picture this, because the visuals, he's only fucking human, alright). She also accidentally outs Derek as bi/pan/otherwise multisexual by mentioning a past boyfriend or two, which just makes things worse for Stiles, because clearly the guy thing wasn't a dealbreaker for Derek, except how he's absolutely definitely getting back together with Grace and they're going to live happily ever after together in $NEW_YORK and blah blah blah.
Anyway, everyone works together to take down the MotW, and finally Grace is headed back to $NEW_YORK. Stiles is bracing himself for Derek to announce he's going along, when Grace basically hugs Derek and says she'll miss him and to call if he ever needs her help again, because he clearly isn't leaving BH. Stiles is even more confused when Grace gives him a hug and basically asks him to take good care of Derek, she knows how Derek gets sometimes, but Stiles seems like he's up to the task. Oh, and to be sure to call when things get to be too much for them, because she's pretty sure Derek won't actually be doing that. And then she leaves. Stiles turns to Derek and is like, What the fuck just happened? Derek blushes, confesses somehow (he was planning to as Stiles on a date once things calmed down? Grace was convinced that Stiles was into him and they'd make a cute couple and was encouraging Derek to go for it but he didn't think Stiles was interested? Something), Stiles is ecstatic, happily ever after fighting bad guys in Beacon Hills, the end.
I don't know if I'm ever going to write this, despite the fact that I basically just outlined the whole damn thing. Reasons: A) I kinda suck at coming up with MotW; B) Also original character; C) Oh, and Stiles' POV is kinda elusive to me, just for a trifecta of This Isn't Happening. On the other hand, if I decide to basically ignore everything that happened in TW canon after Season Two (which is seeming like a better and better idea all the time, the only exceptions being the existence of Cora and Kira), I might be able to pull it off. IDK, I do still have a zillion other plunnies to write. Argh.

Date: 2015-02-02 05:34 am (UTC)* Five times Scott accidentally barged in on Stiles' dates with Derek, and one time Stiles realized it was all on purpose. Featuring a comment from Stiles at the end, after he figures out what Scott is up to and confronts him on it, that it's a damn good thing he's got an incest kink (in recognition of how Scott and Stiles are basically brothers).
* You know those fics where Derek woos Stiles werewolf-style? I want one of those, except Derek has to prove he's a good mate for Stiles to Stiles' alpha, AKA Scott. And neither Scott nor Stiles knows this, leading to horrible misunderstandings and jealousy, etc. Because hilarious.
