soc_puppet: Dreamsheep with a ball of white yarn for a body (Crochet)

Phew! What a week. And what a day. And what a day tomorrow is going to be, urgh. I'm scheduled for nine hours (minus a half-hour lunch break), but it could even go longer than that, urk.

On the plus side, I had someone express interest in a custom floppy cat this week. The cat they wanted a mini-me(ow) of is a gorgeous calico, but the pattern of her splotches was ridiculously complicated to do. I ended up using five different colors of yarn to get her right. The buyer is quite pleased with the results, though, which is quite a relief; I was worried for a while there that I would have to take her apart (at least partly) and re-do some areas to add more color or use a different one. With as many color changes as there were already, I'm more than glad that I won't have to re-do any of it to add more.

Anyway, in celebration(?) of that event, and also because I finally have time to do so, here are pictures of the big griffin I made, yay!

[Image descriptions: A large gray crocheted griffin with black talons and beak, a purple cere, and gold eyes; in at least one pic there is a 6"/15cm ruler to better show scale]

I modeled the coloring off of the griffin [Content Note: pictures of rats at link] I made for [personal profile] redsixwing for two reasons: One, because I thought that her color choices turned out amazingly, and two, because I couldn't find the light yellow yarn I'd originally been planning to use as a counterpoint to brown for a different griffin color scheme :P I'll probably be making that one eventually, too. I really would've liked to use the gold eyes for the brown griffin and eyes of a different color (probably purple) for this one, but I hadn't painted the clear eyes I'd ordered yet and the gold ones were right there, so. I've got some gold paint, so I'll probably be painting the clear eyes gold when I make the brown griffin.

[Image descriptions: A large crocheted gray griffin standing next to a smaller crocheted white griffin, and then with its wings wrapped protectively around the smaller white griffin]

I decided to take the first pic just so I'd have some size comparison pics, and then decided that the gray griffin looked like a parent to the white griffin, so I posed the two of them and took another. I love the way it turned out! It's probably not "realistic" hypothetical behavior for them, though. Well, whatever; I think it looks cute, and that's enough for now.

Speaking of enough for now, I think it may be time for me to take a nap. Or maybe sleep longer than that. Looooooong day on the horizon tomorrow, oof.

Wow. o_o; That's a big fellow!

Osnap. So that little white one there, that's the standard-sized one? That means the big one is nearly the size of my hugenormous handpuppet griffin! :D And, y'know, I can get my hand all the way up into his head and make him nom things.

A random thought: when you handpaint eyes, how much detail do you put into them?
