So. Those new Pokemon games. With the details released, what, early this morning? Yesterday-ish?

Anyway.

It looks like the region is based on Hawai'i, which is def cool. (It certainly seems that way from the Japanese ad, at least, which is adorable if you get a chance to watch it.) I wonder if there'll be boats with w- w- Wailmer Watching tours? ;)

I'm not sure which starter I'll go with, because I rarely am when they're first announced. I usually wait until I know final typing and final evolutions, because I likes me a balanced team, and the look of the final evolution is the look I'll have to live with for most of the game. I'm currently feeling Rowlet and Litten more than Popplio, but Gen V was recent enough that I'm sure we all remember how little love Oshawott got before its final evo was released. Rowlet has an advantage of being pretty obviously a flying type, and very likely to learn Fly (in later evolutions, if not immediately), and Litten looks like it might be a Dark dual-type.

Popplio looks like it may be a Water mono-type, which I have mixed feelings about? I'm not currently sure what other type it could be mixed with, and I do think it's nice when there's a mix of mono-types and dual-types in the starters, but this would also make Water the most common mono-type starter, and Fire type is really due for a mono-type again soon. I mean, I'm 100% grateful that Gen VI broke the Fire/Fighting dual-type starters, because it was getting repetitive even if it is a great type combo, but I'm still not sure that's the same as mono-typing for three of seven generations.

Of the two games, I'm leaning towards Moon over Sun, because hot damn, vampire moon thing! Though the Sun legendary looks pretty badass as well. Since they're out in late November, I may pull the same stunt I did last time and buy Moon for myself then ask for Sun for my birthday/Christmas :P I'm not sure what theme Inevitable Third Legendary will have; star seems pretty likely, though comet and planet/Earth have reasonable chances, too, IMO. (This line of thinking is making me want a Pokemon game set in outer space. Next logical step y/n.)

It's also seeming like the game makers aren't going in so much for Inevitable Third Game anymore. Which is a shame, because I have incredibly fond memories of Emerald, which was basically the Definitive Pokemon Game for me for a good number of years, and I keep looking forward to the game where I'm going to pick that third starter, and it never comes. I should probably just quit going for two games. That seems like a sensible option.

Anyway! Those are my thoughts on the new games. Come have thoughts with me!
