So. Those new Pokemon games. With the details released, what, early this morning? Yesterday-ish?
Anyway.
It looks like the region is based on Hawai'i, which is def cool. (It certainly seems that way from the Japanese ad, at least, which is adorable if you get a chance to watch it.) I wonder if there'll be boats with w- w- Wailmer Watching tours? ;)
I'm not sure which starter I'll go with, because I rarely am when they're first announced. I usually wait until I know final typing and final evolutions, because I likes me a balanced team, and the look of the final evolution is the look I'll have to live with for most of the game. I'm currently feeling Rowlet and Litten more than Popplio, but Gen V was recent enough that I'm sure we all remember how little love Oshawott got before its final evo was released. Rowlet has an advantage of being pretty obviously a flying type, and very likely to learn Fly (in later evolutions, if not immediately), and Litten looks like it might be a Dark dual-type.
Popplio looks like it may be a Water mono-type, which I have mixed feelings about? I'm not currently sure what other type it could be mixed with, and I do think it's nice when there's a mix of mono-types and dual-types in the starters, but this would also make Water the most common mono-type starter, and Fire type is really due for a mono-type again soon. I mean, I'm 100% grateful that Gen VI broke the Fire/Fighting dual-type starters, because it was getting repetitive even if it is a great type combo, but I'm still not sure that's the same as mono-typing for three of seven generations.
Of the two games, I'm leaning towards Moon over Sun, because hot damn, vampire moon thing! Though the Sun legendary looks pretty badass as well. Since they're out in late November, I may pull the same stunt I did last time and buy Moon for myself then ask for Sun for my birthday/Christmas :P I'm not sure what theme Inevitable Third Legendary will have; star seems pretty likely, though comet and planet/Earth have reasonable chances, too, IMO. (This line of thinking is making me want a Pokemon game set in outer space. Next logical step y/n.)
It's also seeming like the game makers aren't going in so much for Inevitable Third Game anymore. Which is a shame, because I have incredibly fond memories of Emerald, which was basically the Definitive Pokemon Game for me for a good number of years, and I keep looking forward to the game where I'm going to pick that third starter, and it never comes. I should probably just quit going for two games. That seems like a sensible option.
Anyway! Those are my thoughts on the new games. Come have thoughts with me!

Date: 2016-05-10 04:28 pm (UTC)I mean, I'll wait for the third forms and typing to be released, but it is not a dinosaur with a leaf on its back. (If we wanna be excessively technical it's a dinosaur with a leaf bow tie but OKAY YES GOOD.) Owl == happy. And it can turn its head around, which is just altogether too cute.
Popplio may end up being cool but I am not digging the circus seal look it has going on. Litten is adorable and looks like a precursor Litleo (I know it isn't, but also okay) and the Sun legendary looks like a souped-up Pyroar, so I am laughing at that today.
I was leaning toward Sun anyway (so I could make allll the Exalted jokes) but now that the legendary's a lion that choice is almost in the bag. The Moon one looks super cool, though, and sort of reminds me of a boss from Xenoblade Chronicles, which... also yes good.
The Aloha region also looks neat and was that a giant volcano? Big volcano dungeon y/y?
Pokemon in space next logical step y/n Y
Star or comet would be a neat legendary. Earth could be fun too, especially if it's like... Gaia instead of Groudon. I do wonder if we're going to see that cool fire/water type in the Aloha region, too - the Steam pokemon. Pleasepleaseplease. I want one.
Yeah, I'm not sure about the Inevitable Third Game. =/ I've gotten way less likely to actually play a Pokemon game multiple times any more, so maybe a lot of people feel that way? IDK. I do like having all the starters, but Wonder Trade scratched that itch pretty much immediately in the last round.
Also, yayayayay character customization! \o/

Date: 2016-05-10 11:35 pm (UTC)I think it's mostly Popplio's head that's throwing me? I mean, if it had smaller or differently placed ears, and its snout was the same color as the rest of its head, I'm pretty sure I'd be 100% down with it, but the current design I just find kinda... meh. On the other hand, I was totally bugged by Dedenne's whiskers, and now I just kinda ignore them/find them cute? So.
Ooo, there's a question: What's the Inevitable Cute Mascot Electric-Type going to be for this generation? I kinda hope it's something that evolves, since none of them have since the Pikachu line :/
Oh! Oh oh oh! Litten = whatsit, that one cat breed that's like half wildcat. Abyssinian? I know it's bred with Serval (sp?) cats. So it could totes be more closely related to Litleo than your other average small cat Pokemon (Meowth, Skitty, etc).
Big volcano dungeon = YYYYY. It is almost inevitable.
The only problem with a star themed legendary is that we kinda already have Jirachi, but it's more Cute Legendary themed than Badass Legendary themed, and we also already have Cresselia, so. Star themed is def a possibility. (Incidentally, have you heard about Volcanion yet? Because I'd bet good money on it being available in Sun/Moon even if it's not formally released in the US before the games.)
Wonder Trade is awesome like that, and I am very much looking forward to utilizing it again. I like a chance to build a team around each starter rather than having all three being on my team, but getting them all period is definitely something I'm happy about.
SUPER yay for character customization :DD I customized my character in X to have dark skin because I wanted a dark-skinned protagonist for the game, even though I'm white; I'm not entirely sure whether I'll do that this time around, but it's a strong possibility.
So yes! All the yay for Sun and Moon :D

Date: 2016-05-12 06:58 pm (UTC)Magnets is probably the best solution. ^^
Yeah, IDK with Popplio's design. I think it's the neck ruff and clown nose that throw me.
Cute electric type, huh? Well, we had Pikachu... then Pichu, Minun and Plusle, Emolga, Pachirisu, Dedenne... mouse, mouse, mice, flying squirrel, regular squirrel, .. uh, Dedenne.
Maybe we'll get an electric marmot. :D
I like your Litten headcanon and shall adopt it as my own. uwu
We do have Jirachi and Cresselia. A comet one could be super cool. And yeah, Volcanion! That's the awesome Fire/Water type! It's just gotta be in these games!
