So I was lounging around this afternoon, when about an hour and a half ago I saw a Chikorita on the PokeGo radar. Naturally, I got right up to head out and catch it: Shoes, hat, jacket because it got chilly again. I was at the door to leave and told my dad, "I'll be back in a few, I'm just going to the end of the block and back." (This being effectively where the closest Pokestop is.)
Chester, of course, saw all of the signs that I was about to leave, and then heard me say a word that more-or-less rhymes with "walk", so that was the end of that plan.
I got to the Pokestop with Chester in tow with enough time to see the Chikorita; unfortunately, despite Razzing it and using an Ultra-curveball, I didn't catch it and it ran after the first toss. The only other one I've seen did pretty much the exact same thing, though it waited for a second berry and ball before dashing, so I was reasonably disappointed. Less than I might have been, though, since I managed to snag a Girafarig and Octillary on an errand earlier in the afternoon. Having made a decent enough try to get what I came for, I informed Chester that it was time to go home.
Chester was having none of it. I tugged on his leash in the direction of home, but he refused to budge. Most likely my job was made more difficult by the fact that I've switched to walking him on a harness, but ever since he slipped his collar this weekend and I had to chase him around a (thankfully not busy) parking lot for fifteen minutes I haven't trusted him or myself to go collar only. Since we'd walked an alternate route from that starting point a couple of times before, I figured that's what his plan was and we'd take that route again.
Nope! We got to the end of the block and he hung a very insistent left. I eventually managed to get him to hang another left, thus getting us back on track to go home, two streets later.
And that's how what I thought was going to be a fifteen minute outing turned into an hour long walk. Thanks, Chester.
