In other news, guess who has no thumbs and figured out how to get down the stairs today?

Molly the dog sitting on the carpet and being a Very Good Girl, apparently

This pup!

I blame myself. Used to be, we could leave the door to the stairs open, and she'd stand at the top and cry like she was in physical pain when we left her there, but didn't follow; apparently, she didn't know how that many stairs in a row worked. Yesterday, rather than listen to her whine like that, I decided to carry her downstairs to my room so I could put on my socks, then carry her back up so I could take her out for a walk. That seems to have been enough for her to figure it out, because she came down on her own to visit me today 😅

What surprised me more is that Mom and Dad were both in the living room; Chester didn't usually come downstairs unless everyone else was unavailable. Molly, on the other hand, decided she wasn't getting what she wanted from the available humans, so she was going to ask the other one!

It is snowing in southeast Iowa. Probably in other parts of Iowa as well.

Chester the dachshund has liked snow exactly once, and that was the first time he saw it. After that, he quickly realized that snow is simply rain on a time delay, and he doesn't like rain. It's difficult to get him outside to do his business in any precipitation, and also when it's cold enough out that we want him to wear a sweater, and snowing is (usually) two of those things at once.

This afternoon I managed to get him bundled up by sweater-ifying him while he was half-asleep on the couch; after that, I got him to spend more time outside by denying his initial request to go back in after spending only sixty seconds out. We went for a bit of a romp around the yard; while it wasn't as much of a walk as I would have liked, it was still better than if I'd have let him go right back in. Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow.

In other news, my Mukluks have officially gotten their first real taste of winter weather and have passed with flying colors. An expensive purchase, but with the weather in Iowa sometimes getting ridiculous bad, very worth it.

Took Chester out on a brief walk at the request of my mom, who usually does the walking; ended up seeing a cicada nymph—as in, a cicada before it molts—in motion for the second time in my life! I ended up getting a short video of it crawling across the sidewalk before I picked it up and put it on a tree for safety.

Good luck, little (big) bug! I look forward to either you or your potential mates buzzing at top volume in the near future!

The story is, I drew a couple of coloring pages for Pokemon Go's Chikorita Community Day, and at least two people were all, "I want that on a shirt. Can you put that on a shirt? Because I would spend actual money to wear that on a shirt."

And one of our other local PoGo-ers was already designing themed stuff for our use, so I figured: Why not!

Anyway, you can check it out here. 30% off until absurd o'clock on Friday morning! At which point I'll probably add at least one more of my coloring page designs, because this is surprisingly fun???

Also I'll try and upload the original coloring page sometime soon, because coloring, yay!

Chester, no

So I was lounging around this afternoon, when about an hour and a half ago I saw a Chikorita on the PokeGo radar. Naturally, I got right up to head out and catch it: Shoes, hat, jacket because it got chilly again. I was at the door to leave and told my dad, "I'll be back in a few, I'm just going to the end of the block and back." (This being effectively where the closest Pokestop is.)

Chester, of course, saw all of the signs that I was about to leave, and then heard me say a word that more-or-less rhymes with "walk", so that was the end of that plan.

A good three paragraphs of story under here, with mention of past animal imperilment (with a happy ending) )

And that's how what I thought was going to be a fifteen minute outing turned into an hour long walk. Thanks, Chester.
