More work complaining
Apr. 24th, 2018 10:44 pmEnded up going into Malicious Competence Mode on Sunday again. It wasn't quite as bad as the eighth, but twice in one month is still not great. Not even a little bit.
We're washing most of our own dishes these days, despite the fact that the hotel has a dish room and dedicated dish washers. This is because when we sent our dishes over to the dish room, not all of them were coming back, and We decided this was the lesser of two evils. (And by 'We' I mean my more senior coworkers and supervisors, and I didn't object.) Sadly, washing our own dishes eats up a certain amount of time that it didn't used to.
On top of that, we've switched our dinner bread recipes again, and while it's objectively a better product than we had been making, I'm pretty sure it takes more time. I'm not sure exactly how much more time, but it's definitely a factor. I plan to time myself next Sunday to find out.
Between those things and a few others (like the fact that I have to get into the locked storeroom almost every Sunday, which almost always involves a carefully timed phone call), Sundays are definitely taking longer than they used to. Unfortunately, no one else seems to be even willing to work on Sundays, never mind something as inconsequential as "want", not even for a few hours if I'm in crisis mode. A couple of my coworkers were specifically discussing how they rarely do anything on their days off, so we should totally call them in if we need them! I made noise about actually doing that, and they were quick to say Except Sundays.
I mean, I get it. It's really great to have one solid day off a week that you can plan your life aroundI imagine. And I do normally enjoy working solo on Sundays (I get to play whatever music I want without feeling self-conscious, or even (as is more frequent these days) listen to audiobooks/podcasts/etc), but some Sundays it's just not tenable to do everything on my own.
I need backup sometimes. And right now, I'm not sure I would get it if I asked for it.
(Failing that, earning overtime pay for every minute I work past eight hours in a single day would be an acceptable compromise.)
