A pair of bicolored jeans with stenciled butterflies

All done! Or, well, as done as they're getting on my watch :P There's definitely some things I could have done differently, and probably will do differently if/when I make a new pair. Still, for a project that was at least half "proof of concept", I think they turned out reasonably well!

The "butterfly garland" stencil I found in the clearance section at Joann's, and I really think the added "interest point" on the lighter panels helps tie the look together better. The results were a teensy bit splotchy, but I was getting a bit impatient. The butterflies also help make the way the lighter fabric shifted to the front of my shins from the side of my hips look more like it was on purpose, though it definitely wasn't.

Despite my best efforts, the waist did end up a little tighter than I wanted. I noticed shortly after I started applying the waist extension, but at that point I was ready to be done, so I let it go. They still fit pretty well, and at the end of the day, that's most of what I was going for; I'll just have to remember to either get slightly larger pants next time, or maybe to get a third pair to tie in.

Both pairs of pants I found on the discount rack of a local secondhand store, though the lighter of the pair was put there erroneously; the darker pair was also much more expensive than most of the other jeans before being marked down. If both of them had been marked down to/from the typical price I find jeans at that store, I might only have spent five dollars total on the two of them; instead the cost was fourteen. Still, not bad for a pair of plus-sized jeans.

Oh, one more thing to note: The front pockets from the darker pair of jeans, the ones that were least altered to make the current pair? They started out as nice, deep, functional pockets, but those nice, deep pockets now fall a lot closer to my crotch 9_9a Meanwhile, the side pockets (originally back pockets) from the lighter-colored panels are super comfortable and natural to use, though not quite as deep as I would like. Definitely something I'd want to fix before sewing everything together in a future pair of fusion pants.

Overall, this was a great experience, and definitely a project I would do again.

Edit: The Tumblr post that inspired it all.

What a lovely design and they look great!

Plus I love that you took this thing that thin people thoughtlessly do and turned it around.
