"Sixths" is quite possibly the worst word in the English language, and I am only grateful that it so infrequently used.

Mostly pronouncing it, TBH. Trying to annunciate the k-s-th-s bit at the end clearly, and especially going from S to quiet-TH to S sounds, is just deeply frustrating to me.

On the other hand, given your affinity for snakes, I can understand how you might feel differently 😉🐍 Sssthhhsssthhhsss....

I am willing to compromise and call them equally the worst in different ways, especially if you elaborate.

(Orchestra kid here grew up on sforzando; it's not English, but does also have the S-F sound right at the beginning, which is one reason why sphere is not quite that far up the list for me personally.)

It is just... such a terrible word to pronounce. I feel like my tongue is tripping over my teeth every time I get to the end of it!

it feels like a word that's not supposed to be. maybe if we used it more often, it would have morphed into something pronounceable!

That is about the only good argument I have ever heard for why it should be a more common word.

Maybe sifs? Siths would be a good transitional phase between sixths and sifs, I think (with the totally accidental implication that it's an evil word, because Star Wars).
