Back from my biopsy! Matter is in processing and I'll probably find out the results from my doctor sometime in the next week or so. In the mean time, my neck is sore 🙃
Long story short, I've got "nodules" on the left and right sides of my thyroid. I went in for a biopsy this afternoon so we can figure out what these nodules are, with a high probability that they're benign, but the possibility that they're not acknowledged.
With assistance from ultrasound, the doctor anesthetized my neck one side at a time, then went in with microneedles to take samples of what he described as my "thyroid goiters" (which Wikipedia suggests is redundant, but whatever, I'm not a doctor and Wiki can't tell me everything). With the numbing agent, that was a total of four pokes on each side. Thankfully, the doctors got sufficient material with the first round of pokes on each side, so they didn't have to go through for another round.
Anyway, it was a relatively straightforward procedure, even if it took longer than I would have liked (about an hour, all told). My neck is sore near the injection and sampling sites, but I'd say it's pretty similar to the soreness I remember after getting my flu shot, which honestly makes sense.
My biggest regret is that the sample sites are placed such that I can't meaningfully pull off any vampire jokes.
I'll share the results when I learn them.
