Jeez, probably? It would not surprise me in the slightest. I think it went to Yahoo for millions, and then Wordpress for maybe tens or hundreds of thousands? Either way, I care very little about who owns it, except inasmuch as they want to profit off of tempting (pressuring? coercing isn't quite right...) their userbase into doing illegal things and then throwing said userbase under the bus at the first sign of trouble. I understand that Tumblr needs a source of revenue, but even if there weren't better options, they could be handling this one a whole lot better.
The NSFW ban pissed me off, but FF.net survived over a decade in spite of theirs, so in retrospect I'm not surprised that Tumblr didn't die off from it. (Also there's a number of users that I don't know where I'd find elsewhere, except maybe Twitter, and no way in hell am I spending my social media time there. I will figure out how RSS feeds work first.)
