I've spent the last day-ish monitoring a Tumblr post I made promoting the hell out of Dreamwidth on the basis of the following four features:
- Yes to porn
- NFTs and crypto can fuck off (with link evidence of
denise saying so in not quite those words)
- Posts in (reverse) chronological order
- Actual privacy options
With Discord (and now self-publishing site Gumroad, and possibly Patreon) leaning into NFTs, these seem to be decent selling points to the Tumblr crowd 😂ðŸ˜
I did initially forget the lack of ads, but managed to go into extra detail when someone else brought it up. Definitely a good selling point, that.
In retrospect, putting all of those together would've been a nice, "Top 5 Cool Things About Dreamwidth", but I think it's doing well on its own at the moment.

Date: 2022-02-07 10:45 am (UTC)In my case it also helped that I did vaguely lurk around the end of LJ era, so had some idea that DW might be a place I'd like to check out more! Sometimes it just takes that last nudge, haha.

Date: 2022-02-07 04:16 am (UTC)Really, I was mostly aiming for what I think are the top priorities of most of Tumblr, and while I think accessibility should be a priority for more of them, I'm sure they'll eventually come to appreciate it more. Hopefully sooner rather than later, and also for its own sake, but, well, we'll see what happens ten or twenty years down the road.

Date: 2022-02-09 04:08 am (UTC)I keep hearing so many complaints about social media - the biggest one is probably algorithmic stuff, but ads is one, NFTs is currently a big one, lack of ability to foster community interaction... Content restrictions is probably one that will just keep growing as a concern and frustration, as more and more sites bow to more and more advertisers, etc.
A lot of the people who lament these things never had or used LJ, though others did and say they miss it... COME HERE!
(I know at least part of Dreamwidth's chill nature is because it doesn't have a huge userbase, but the privacy features available for both individuals and communities can do so much more to curb bad behavior, as compared to FB or Twitter or Tumblr, etc.)
