Just spent some time setting up new ProtonMail, BitWarden, and CryptDrive accounts, then switched my official email accounts for AO3 and Dreamwidth to the new ProtonMail account, on the advice of this post. I haven't gotten to Tor yet, but I'll probably convince myself tomorrow-ish.

Honestly, when it comes to "Things that are a significant part of my life that I should probably know more about," my plan for learning more about one of them was to go for cars next, so I can better communicate with my mechanics; I guess internet stuff is good, too, though.

All that said, why is setting all of this up so exhausting? I've been at this maybe an hour or two, and I'm ready to be done for the day. I mean, granted, I was starting after nine in the evening, but still.

Based on the same post, I have all of this on my tentative mental to-do list. I don't have the time or energy right now, but I know it's all the sort of thing that would be a very good idea to do.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to any maintenance of this yet today, but that's in part because I decided it was finally time to rotate my mattress instead. I'll probably get to entering a few passwords tonight, at least! And in the mean time, more hippos!

the main reason I haven't properly switched to ProtonMail yet is, free users get iirc one auto-filter. I have several set up in Gmail and I rely on them. (also the web interface annoys me. not least because I cannot make it put the browser hotkeys back how it found them.)

I forget why I haven't properly got started with Cryptpad, but I did switch to Bitwarden when LastPass decided I could access it from either desktop/laptop or mobile, my choice which, but not both unless I paid money I don't have. see also why I don't have a VPN. (well, part of the reason. the other part is the donation-supported activist-run one I had quit working and idk why.)

I'm honestly planning to keep my Gmail account open for a good while, and only switch over the stuff I really care about; it's why AO3 and Dreamwidth were first on my list over there 😂 Not at all sure what I'll do about Tumblr, if and when the time comes.

I forgot to record my LastPass password anywhere, and wasn't able to properly recreate it from memory the last time I tried 😱 (I have learned since this, I promise you.) I hadn't looked for a new password manager since then, and was very happy to get a rec! Next up is the arduous task of entering all these damn passwords.

that was my initial plan too, but it turns out the ability to route AO3 new chapter emails, AO3 new comment emails, and AO3 record of comments I left emails into different folders is really important to me

transferring my passwords was easy, but of course exporting one's passwords and stuff from LastPass requires being logged in; sympathy on the impending tedium

I've been working on a lot of this stuff slowly for about a month or so now. I still haven't changed all of my emails over. It's just slow going!

Honestly, changing all of my emails over is going to be pretty low on my priority list. I started with the ones that I'm always happy to get notifications for, will likely move anime convention staff stuff over next, then probably family emails. Various businesses will be scattered around in there as I feel the need arise and/or depending on how much I like them (Bandcamp is pretty near the top of the list, for example, since I visit them fairly frequently and love their business ethic, whereas Amazon I'm putting off as long as possible). I probably won't move everything over until/unless I absolutely have to. (Ignoring the stuff I plan to dump, of course.)
