Dad tested positive for Covid today. Mom and I both took a test, and our first tests say we're negative on top of us not having any particular symptoms, but the directions say we need to take a second test in 24-36 hours before we can really say we're negative, and even then we shouldn't count on the home tests 100%. I'm planning to take my second test before I go to work tomorrow, which is putting it at more like 21 hours, but I figure it's probably close enough, especially if I can stop somewhere and pick up a third test before I get home. Unless that test comes up positive, in which case I'm staying home anyway.

We're all fully vaxxed and boosted, so our outlook for fighting Covid off is pretty decent on that end; we're also all fat, and apparently Covid is one of the few ways when being fat actually does make a noticeable negative difference, though I haven't checked the research yet to find out if it's just more fatphobia or not. Mom and Dad are over sixty, and Dad may or may not be diabetic, which are all more marks in the "bad" column. Still, we'll be taking proper precautions; I've already started masking up around the house, and I only ever stopped masking up at work for a few hours when the weather got completely unbearable and there were only three or fewer other (fully vaxxed) people in the same room as me. I'm good to go back to 100% masking.

Anyway, I've alerted the people who need alerting: Primarily my boss and the people I was anticipating working with at WisCon. I'll be paying attention for symptoms and such as well, though allergy season will definitely confuse things a bit there. Other than that, all I can say is that I'll keep everyone updated.

I'm very glad that he is doing better. I hope your mom also recovers quickly and well, though I'm so sorry she has it as well.

Thank science, indeed!

But yeah... the whole "no mask mandates whatsoever" thing surely doesn't have anything to do with the high transmission rates!
