Ha ha ha ha ha!
Took a Covid test this morning, as planned. There was an extremely thin and faint line by the positive test check area, to the point where I could go either way on whether it was positive or negative and my parents were also split. Called the doctor to ask for advice, we'll be doing a telehealth check thing this afternoon. In the mean time, I will not be going to work today.
Update: Doc said to go ahead and assume the test results were positive. Apparently, most people catch it within five days of cohabitating with a contagious person, and even if Dad just barely falls outside the range, Mom doesn't.
I did all I could to improve my odds, but if you roll the the dice enough times, eventually it'll still come up a natural one. On the plus side, everything I did to improve my odds should make the actual experience of Covid less terrible and dangerous than otherwise.
I'll be staying home from WisCon. We'll see what happens after that. If I develop symptoms before May 30th, I stay home until June 4th; otherwise, May 30th is my "release date".

Date: 2022-05-26 05:20 am (UTC)You can do as much as possible to protect yourself, but you're right - sometimes it still happens. I hope you have as mild (or asymptomatic!) a case as possible.
I'm sorry you have to stay home from the con. (Even as I'm very glad you're doing so, as the responsible thing to do.)

Date: 2022-05-27 04:45 am (UTC)So far it's staying mild and/or asymptomatic, and the hard part is going to be figuring out which of those two it really is.

Date: 2022-05-28 02:29 am (UTC)I'm glad it's staying mild, at the very least! One of the rough things about Covid is how many of the symptoms can *also* be symptoms of other things, including allergies and the like. It's difficult to narrow it down.

Date: 2022-05-26 06:26 pm (UTC)Yeah, according to the instructions on the home tests, even a faint line means positive. :(

Date: 2022-05-27 04:48 am (UTC)I kept on going back and forth because not only was it a faint line, it was a thin line. Almost like a watermark or something? And all of the "example" faint lines were at least as thick as the control line, which this wasn't. But I suppose that even if it really was negative (and if mine stays mild and/or asymptomatic, I may never know), it's still better not to chance it.
