To sell a card
Jan. 17th, 2023 11:26 pmGood news: Found a store that buys individual Pokémon cards! The clerk was absolutely amazed to see some of the cards I had.
Bad news: They didn't offer near as much as I wanted. Understandable, they've gotta make money as well, but I want my basement to stop flooding, darn it!
Good news: The website that the store uses to do price checking has a section where people can set up to sell through them, potentially meaning me.
Bad news: Ack, how do I do the thing!
Good news: A friend has helped me figure out much of how to do the thing, yay!
Neutral news: Next what I want to do is make an appointment with the tax person my parents and I go to every year to find out what sort of things I need to know going forward with this. I think this is a phone call I will be able to make without screaming. (The total I'd potentially make from these cards is enough that I'll almost certainly need to report it as income next year.)
Okay. Deep breath. I can do this.

Date: 2023-01-19 03:00 am (UTC)I have binders of old pokemon cards, but am probably still too nostalgically attached to want to sell them. Not sure what would be considered in-demand, anyway!

Date: 2023-01-19 04:19 am (UTC)I'm keeping at least a couple dozen of the fancier ones, plus a deck that my BFF at the time gave me for my... thirteenth? Fourteenth? Well, one of the birthdays around then, at any rate. If you want to check the value of your cards, though, for insurance purposes or if you decide to sell down the line, TCGPlayer.com is the site I was recommended.
More exciting news: Last night while digging through my binder, I discovered that one of the otherwise less valuable cards in my collection has a printing error on it; my holofoil Clefable doesn't have the little stamp thing that indicates it's from the Jungle set! I don't know how much that will increase the price, but it's bound to do something!

Date: 2023-01-20 04:55 am (UTC)Thanks for the site rec! I'll have to look at it, and see if anything I have is worthwhile. Even just to know, even if I don't plan on selling.
The nostalgia of excitedly opening a card pack (or finding a new shop that had card packs at the time!) is SO strong!
But that's neat! I'm pretty sure I have a holo Clefable from the jungle packs... but don't recall ever catching one that missed the stamp marker! But that's probably a neat rarity!
