Meet my latest stress headache
Jul. 3rd, 2023 12:15 amI just spent two minutes contemplating what would happen if I made a post on Tumblr begging minors not to share any sexually explicit fan stuff they create until they turn eighteen, and. I will not be making any such post over there.
That said, I might as well say it over here. Ahem.
I cannot prevent minors from creating sexually explicit fan material, and I wouldn't prevent them from doing so if I could, because it's a safe way for them to explore their sexuality on their own. But if they ever share it online, they had better be at least eighteen, because any other possible option is... I honestly don't know if there's a way for anyone to interact with any such material legally? Like, it's not legal if you're another minor, because it's not legal for minors to look at, but I also can't imagine it's legal for anyone over the age of eighteen to knowingly interact with, because yikes? And finding out after interacting is also very yikes?
I need to go think about something else now. This is stressing me out just to think about.
Anyway, if you're a minor and you're here for some reason, please do not share any sexually explicit materials you create online until you turn eighteen. I really, really don't know if that means "don't share anything you created before you were eighteen even after you turn eighteen," and I also don't know if I want to find out at this point regardless.
Honestly, this sort of thing is going to be at least five million kinds of hell if this country backslides enough to decide that anything queer is legally "sexually explicit". I don't think we'll get that far, but. Well.

Either they were lying (possible, the writing was pretty damn good for that age range, from what I remember), or this is not a new problem.)

I know a minor whose work I will not read because I know they post nsfw, and I'm not comfortable discussing it with them in any way, but the only reason I got the heads-up is that they mentioned it in a totally different context and I added 2 and 2.
