I'd say something about a nefarious plan to get everyone to start using Dreamwidth, but I really don't think that wanting more people here is all that nefarious.

In any case, nefarious or not, I certainly seem to have accidentally gotten some attention.

It's interesting, because every time I log in to Tumblr that 'find communities' message is always the first thing that turns on. Which is really more of a dreamwidth feature and is unnecessary on tumblr, which is in itself a community and people already have convos about their interests.

Oof, I've got that "Find Community" thing popping up on the first page of my dash view. Usually not until around the seventh or eighth post, but even then!

I saw an ask answered by some Tumblr staff within the past few days where it looked like you need official approval for Tumblr communities to exist? Like, you suggest one, and then Tumblr decides if it can be a real thing or not? I haven't looked into starting or joining any myself, but I would find that to be a severe detriment to doing so on Tumblr. Like, I can understand if they're just trying to minimize the number of communities per topic, but that still has the potential to go bad in any number of ways.

God I hope Dreamwidth actually catches on somehow, I really am starting to feel how almost all other social media sites are overstimulating at this point.

I would love if Dreamwidth got more attention because of this. I know a few people in the notes were talking about wanting to be more active here or creating accounts, but I'd love it if even half the people who voted "Yes, I had/have an LJ account" on my poll decided to be more active here!

Most other places on the web that I know about just go so fast. I really like that Dreamwidth is slower and more in-depth.

I just went and checked the site stats for new accounts created in the past two days, and it doesn't look like a statistically significant change there. Still, I can always hope that current account holders have decided to be more active after being reminded that Dreamwidth exists!

Yeah, that sounds like a bad idea. Why should they be gate-keeping that?

And yeah, sometimes there are multiple comms on here (as there were on LJ), but a lot of times people joined both, sometimes two or more comms dedicated to a fandom offered different things and it was fun to participate in more than one, and sometimes people decided to pool their resources and settle on one comm. People worked it out without the platform's staff being hands on about everything.

Right? And it was also useful for if there was someone who you really didn't like in Community A but not Community B; and if that person is in both of those communities, you can go and make your own Community C!

But I'm also only speculating wildly based on that single post. It might also still technically be in beta? IDK.
