Absolutely devastating that Tumblr communities don't allow embedded links from Dreamwidth. I include so many of those fuckers in my tutorials, because I want to make things easier for potential Dreamwidth users! Unfortunately, when I go to copy-paste one of the tutorials I'm writing for newcomers over to Dreamwidth Sharing on Tumblr, that means I have to manually remove all hyperlinks and either enter a Tumblr substitute (or the occasional non-Dreamwidth substitute), or include a plain text version of the link after the text I would normally embed the link in. Very frustrating, especially when Tumblr informs me that I missed a link, and therefore cannot post the entry to the community.

Paste your tutorial into the HTML side of the Dreamwidth post creator. This removes all formatting. It's a trick I use when I just want to strip things.

Copy that stripped text and paste into your post creator on Tumblr.

Now open your posted tutorial on Dreamwidth. For each link, copy the text of its URL and put that into your Tumblr post as plain text.

Put a note at the top of your Tumblr tutorial advising readers of the problem and suggesting that they either read the Dreamwidth version with live links, or copy the text URLs into their favorite search engine.

It's a kludge, but it'll avoid Tumblr blocking your posts from uploading.

I actually use Rich Text when posting to Tumblr; they don't have a casual HTML option, and I wasn't prepared to start adding [br] every time I wanted to start a new paragraph.

I've got a workaround I use, Tumblr just yells at me any time I try to post without having removed all the links. It's not too different from how Dreamwidth's beta Create Entries page will put up a fuss if I have unclosed HTML somewhere, I'm just less irritated at Dreamwidth for that for no good reason 😛
