Winter Program

Going to the dojo tonight to have a Bo lesson. I've been avoiding it, because things that give me a 1:1 ratio of attendance to anxiety attacks would probably do that for anyone. Going tonight because the Winter Program is coming up, and I signed up for it more than a month ago, knowing at the time that I was probably tempting fate.

Probably going to make my dojo hiatus official shortly after the program (this Friday D:). It sucks, forgetting why you started doing something, and then only going because you feel obligated. Plus, it's shopping season, and I work in retail now, so Mark'll appreciate that I have Saturdays free. It won't be forever, I know; I will go back someday, because there is a place for me and because I love the arts themselves like no tomorrow and the people there are damn cool, but I will be taking a break to remember myself.

(Also note: anyone who has ever thought of fighting with a polearm and a sword at the same time? Or equipping a character with similar? Stupid idea. Unless you like the idea of an early death/creating Samurai movie extras.)

Just 'cus he carries both doesn't mean he uses them at the same time. Just because a samurai carried two swords doesn't mean he used them at the same time, one was there as backup.

True. Still, samurai did often use two swords at once; one was shorter than the other so to be more easily wielded by the left hand. (There were, apparently, no left-handed samurai -_-a) Anyway, there's no way he can use the sword effectively if he's holding the staff. If he wants to use the sword, he drops the staff (or throws it at his opponant).

The problem with most pole-arms (at least from what I've seen in the SCA) is that you need both hands to handle one. That could be a problem...

'Zactly. And that means if you want to use the sword you have to put the bo down first. Sensei was all in a rage over how some mainstream character carried (and supposedly used) both, and how stupid that was, though none of use could think of which character it was.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start an argument. In my mind I pictured the bo just stuck in the ground near him.
