1) Racism (and other diversity issues) hurt a lot more people a lot more often than do bad science issues in television and movies. The fact that you can't see this is a facet of white privilege.
2) If you want me to shut up about it, you could actually tell me this, like [other person] did. It was nice being able to vent to one of two people, but I can live with zero if it means we have a better relationship. Likewise, if you'd rather we each just complain and let complain, LET ME KNOW. Tell me it's not fair that I get to complain about [x] but you can't complain about [y] without me trying to rationalize it! I will take the hint and shut up while you complain, I promise!
3) Incidentally, being misquoted is a pretty significant pet peeve of mine. The MST3K Mantra can be found here, for future reference. (I also consider institutionalized isms to be bigger than just one show, movie, or commercial. Bad science can be corrected with relative ease on a case-by-case basis; institutionalized isms are a lot harder to nail down.)
The next time I see you, I will go back to not bringing up issues one and three to your face, though we will definitely be talking about issue two at some point in the near future.
