Everyone loves free books, right?
Jul. 31st, 2009 08:22 pmI know I've fangirled this book before, though it got no response at the time. If you haven't gotten to it yet, you now have a chance to win a free signed copy of The Stepsister Scheme by Jim C. Hines. Free, you guys. As in, costing you absolutely no money! It's better than a library copy, because it's signed by the author and you get to keep it! All you have to do is: A) comment to the post linked above, and B) promise to post a review of the book by October 6, 2009 (if you win a copy).
Some great things about this book:
* Kickass ladies being awesome
* Stories that explore fairy tales to a greater depth and turn cliches on their heads
* Writing that deals with complex issues in a realistic and respectful way
* Thorough world building
* Moments of sheer hilarity
There's also (and I know this is a selling point for some of you) a lesbian who can and will kill you in the face. Who is not evil and promises to be a recurring character. And she is totally my favorite, and I would go on and on about her if given a chance.
SO! Go try and win yourself a book! If I am not one of the four winners, I will not be completely crushed, really. I mean, Icon isn't that far away from me this year, and I can totally screw up the courage to go there on my own to potentially get the copy I already have signed. Maybe. Possibly. I hope.
And if you don't win it, consider picking up a copy somewhere anyway. 'Specially through the author's affiliated links, 'cuz that'll give him more chances to give out free books. And if you don't win it and I do, and you're just that desperate for a copy, I'll mail you my unsigned one. Yes.
In other news! The MYF Bingo Cards are finished, barring further suggestions/criticism.
alias_sqbr also put together a lovely version that really showcases the contradictory thinking.
