Nov. 30th, 2017 05:36 pmSo my coworkers today surprised me with not one, but TWO birthday cards: One from the bakery staff (my "nuclear" coworkers, you could say) and one from other senior staff members. The one from the bakery also had a giftcard for Half Price Books in it, though I don't know how much it's for. Also, one of the student interns knows I'm into anime, and is also into anime, and gave me a Madoka figurine. (Apparently she'd picked it up at some point with the intent to just give it to me, 'cuz I like Madoka, but then she found out today was my birthday and was like, "Perfect!" The box does not appear to have been opened previously.) There were also lots of happy birthday wishes pretty much the minute I came through the bakery door, and a few "We appreciate you!"s as well.
99% of me is overwhelmed with joy and gratitude and surprise, I am pretty sure that this could carry me through at least the next week of Cookie Hell.
...1% of me is being Horribly Suspicious and Deeply Socially Confused (this is my fifth birthday at my current workplace, but the first time my coworkers have done this for me, and as far as I can tell there's no plans to do anything similar for any of my other coworkers, including the one whose birthday is tomorrow), but I'm trying not to cede too much ground to her.
Anyway, happy birthday to me!
Edit: Okay, so whoever in the non-nuclear coworkers is in charge of getting cards made and signed had one made for Coworker Whose Birthday Is The Day After Mine and brought it around to the bakery for signing on Dec 1st, so I am no longer even slightly bothered by that social tidbit. Also, Cake Decorator Coworker bought a little thing for Dec 1 Birthday Coworker, which neutralizes that other bid of social anxiety. I am now much less anxious about these social things.
