Another possibly (probably?) stupid idea

Yeah, so, uh, CFUD related post here, just a heads up to non-fans. Also, don't be too surprised if a lot of my posts over the next few days tend to focus on either cleaning or CFUD, since that's where my mind is likely to be for a while, given the circumstances.

So, I've been thinking for a while that I wanted to scanlate things. Except I don't have the guts to join an established team, and I don't have the skills/motivation to scanlate on my own. (I lack the linguistic skills to translate, for one thing.) And then it occurred to me, hey, CFUD has a lot of characters from manga series and/or series that have manga components that aren't widely or cheaply available in English, and I know that at least a few people are working on scanlating bits of those on the side; wouldn't it be cool to start a CFUD-centric scanlation team? And the rest of me says, "Awesome, that would totally kill two birds with one stone! ...So to speak."

Except then doubts come pouring in (like "What if they don't want anyone else to scanlate their series?" and the like), and my ego is a fragile, fragile thing, and I don't know if I could make myself suggest it anywhere if I didn't think I was going to get a fair percentage of yesses/volunteers. So, uh, CFUD people on the f'list, this poll is for you, I guess.

This is mostly a sounding board sort of post, so I can do my best not to feel too stupid if/when the answer is 'no', and so I can maybe possibly get a little feedback on why it might be yes or no, and related concerns. ...That is, of course, if anyone actually sees this post and votes and/or comments here.

And now I'm going to go hide in a corner, in case this does turn out to be a really bad idea.

Edit: Aaaand, posted (locked) about it. I'm not sure if negative comments or a ringing silence would be better. ...Also, it might've been a better idea to make that post when the computer lab isn't about to close in ten minutes.

I... don't know? Possibly because I think it's a little stupid regardless, 'cuz it'll EAT MY FREE TIME, but stupid in a good way. Glad it's got support so far, though.

I have a teeny-tiny ego and am prone to self-doubt. And there's always cleaning and/or QC-ing? Which is probably what I'll end up doing, with maybe a side ordering of editing ^^a

*fluffs up socchan's ego* I'm afraid I don't really get scanlation jargon ^^;; But I'll try to help any way I can, if you want me to. There are probably much better qualified members of CFUD.

*ego is fluffed, and starts to look pretty* Cleaning basically means you take the raw (just scanned, still in Japanese) pages and make them look pretty; this usually means straightening them out (it doesn't have to be perfect), making the pages brighter, removing unwanted colors (like if your pages scan yellow-ish for some reason), and sometimes removing Japanese text as well. QC-ing is Quality Checking, and that's basically proof-reading for good English and typos. Editing is either just putting in the translated text on cleaned pages, or sometimes cleaning the pages in addition to typesetting. It can also include re-drawing some of the images where sound effects or words were edited out, and joining spread pages. [/end long explanation of scanlation stuff] And as long as we can find a healthy balance between "enough people to get something done" and "too many people to get it done quickly", it would be awesome if you could help out ^_^b

(WTF, I almost seriously typed up CFUD Scans right there o_O I HAVEN'T STARTED IT YET, BRAIN.)
