I'm beginning to think I need a running tally of how many months LJ goes without making terrible PR decisions. Just so I can keep track. *goes back to staring hopefully in the direction of ScribblIt a-and virtually ignoring IJ, er*
As many as it takes for them to lose a good 50% of their userbase at this point, I'd imagine. I could write a paper on the idea that the internet causes brain damage based solely on the handling of LJ over the last... however long.
Wait, wait. Not true. The LJ users are intelligent enough. The corporate assholes of the real world trying to play a hand in the world of the interwebs, however...
Yeah. You might want to put things into a bit more perspective than what you mentioned before. Obviously, it's the opposite of what you say. Obviously.
I'm not saying that the internet does make everyone stupid, I'm just saying that, if you only use 6A/SUP as an example? You could very easily get that impression. Plz to pardon my unintended foot-in-mouthage.
It's fine~ And like I said, it's the corporate assholes from RL trying to make their dirty money with OUR interwebs. Like hell we'll stand for it when we're obviously far more intelligent than they~
But yes! Do write the essay at some point! It would be complete win and awsum, really.
Still, not a lot else we can do :/ Just yell, and make cool slogans. (I'm thinking of calling this one Basic Fail; what do you think?)
Playeth not devil's advocate! Also, I would totally never even get started, let alone finish, as I am hardly even remotely interested/don't have quite enough sources yet.
Well, I haven't a basic account and even if I've one, it wouldn't be erased. Since the strikeout and the multiple sequel, I'm tired of LJ wank, so I would stay indifferent for this one.^^;
I agree with you there, but I still feel bad for anyone who's been planning to join LJ for whatever reason and now doesn't have the basic account option :/
Amen to that; I use a portable version of FireFox myself, and haven't looked back since I had Adblock installed. I'm still annoyed on principle though, and for all the people out there who don't want to/can't use FireFox.
I personally don't think I'm going to need another account set up here anytime soon--I've got my personal LJ and my fic-blog. And really, I can understand why they'd want to get rid of Basic accounts. It's a revenue decision. I don't like it, but I can understand it.
The thing is that this guy doesn't seem to get that most LJ users would have reacted in that fashion if this had been OUT IN THE OPEN. Trying to bury it in the comments and spin it in such a fashion as to suggest that it's for US was pretty much the worst thing they could have done--aside from not announcing it at all, I suppose. Although I think holy hell would have been raised the minute someone tried to create a new RP account and discovered the change.
So...all that crap about learning from 6A's mistakes and the Advisory Board was bullshit. Fabulous~ Guess it's time to start using my LJ SUCKS icon again.
Also, it's not the change that is bothering people. Like you said, it was the lack of forewarning that is pissing the whole LJ community--even BRAD--off.
Yeah. And Brad has been quasi-defending LJ through a lot of this. But now even he's completely trashing this. And there are a lot of people in the comments who are saying that they defended LJ through Strikethrough...usually in these situation's there's at least one person who defends LJ. I haven't seen a single supportive comment in response to this revelation.
What's saying something is that apparently people have been too pissed to post macros. (http://news.livejournal.com/106731.html?thread=68534507#t68534507)

Date: 2008-03-13 01:55 am (UTC)Okay, from a marketing perspective this was either a smart move by SUP or a move that made them shoot them in the foot.
I'm of course opting for the latter.

>c/ But they were shiny!
Date: 2008-03-13 11:39 am (UTC)Have we not learned yet? 6A/SUP destroys all that is shiny out of fear that we will like it.
