Welp, I finished writing the (first?) mpreg abortion fic. It clocked in at just over 2k, which is... IDK, the other two are threatening to be much shorter, if I get around to them. I'm basically pleased with it; I think I did what I set out to do with it, at any rate. And now I really, really want to write the other two, but we'll have to see how it goes. I do have a title for the third one now, though.

I could also stand to have a beta reader look over it. I'm thinking mostly for characterization, but I could also use some input on whether this actually counts as h/c. And also for typos. My typing has seriously gone downhill over the past I'm-not-sure-how-long.

I think this will be the second time I've ever even heard of an mpreg fic that even touched on the topic of abortion as a viable option, so I think I'll be interested in reading it someday.

I recall reading a total of one that mentioned it as an option, and one where the pregnant dude really wanted to abort but couldn't because magic (no, really), but that's also it for me. Which is how I knew I had to write it, of course.

It's also rarely an option in het fic. I've read one fic where a character gets Rule63'd in fic and then gets pregnant and is planning to abort, but then miscarries so it's a non-issue, one fic in which a minor (canon cis-woman) character gets an abortion off-screen, and, just today, one where a Rule63'd character goes out to get Plan B after a condom mishap, which was quite refreshing, but that's it.

I get the reasons to write and read mpreg and pregnancy fic in general, I really do! I just want to make sure that fandom actually touches on the other options.


Anyway, I'll be sure to post a link over here when I get around to posting it on AO3, so you should be able to find it without too much trouble when you're ready to read it.

Your first het example is probably the mpreg example I was thinking of, assuming it's the one from the Marvel comics fandom. It's a good story, and I was pleasantly surprised to see abortion as an option for the characters.

It was indeed Marvel, so probably, yes :3 It was nice to see that abortion was an option, the plan even, but it still felt like a cop-out to me that the author went the miscarriage route instead. /two cents

Incidentally, the second het fic I mentioned was also Marvel.

The first mpreg one I mentioned was an Inception fic, wherein the pregnant dude's mother talks to him about having gone on pro-choice marches together and so he knows there's another option if he wants it, he just didn't want it. Which, I'm giving it serious points for even mentioning it as an option, and also for reinforcing that the character has a pro-choice background, so. (We may have a different scale for this sort of thing :P)

Honestly, this is only my second ever mpreg fic, and the first one was a punchline for something else completely different :P

Surprisingly, no! It was just because I hardly ever see abortion even passingly mentioned in mpreg fics and felt like it needed to be addressed seriously in fic for once. Also possibly because Shakesville and feminism, because yeah. (Though I could seriously go for, like, tropesubversion_bingo or something, because that would be way awesome.)

I am all about trope subversion, and I kind of already do it (not to mention bending and twisting canon in other ways). But tropesubversion_bingo would be extra awesome.

I'll keep an eye out for the post. I'm interested in seeing how you address it. Especially after reading Liss's posts this week about reproductive choice (all aspects of it). :)

Honestly, the hypothetical third is going to have more to do with the recent posts than this one; this one is mostly about bad timing and not being sure yet, the third one is going to be straight-up "We don't actually want kids." But those posts are already super helpful in terms of plotting and so forth. (The second one is going to be "Kids would be nice, I just really really don't want to be pregnant myself." Which these posts are also helpful for, yay!)
