AnimeIowa is coming up, and I want to put more ships in bottles so I can sell them like hotcakes and make out like a bandit. Only I don't exactly have my finger on the pulse of anime fandom anymore these days, so I have no idea what's popular. And while I'm happy to provide non-anime ships*, since it's an anime convention I really would like to have at least an equal number of anime ships.

My solution? (After asking around at Saturday's AI meeting failed miserably, of course.) Check AO3 to find the top listed fandoms for number of fics, and then the top relationships in each of these fandoms.

The only problem? I'd forgotten that there are not only ships but fandoms that I am actively disinterested in. Anti-interested, even. And that they are wildly popular.

*sigh* Such is life, I suppose.

Also, have I mentioned lately how much it totally bites that selling 3D Homestuck stuff is off limits? Because it totally bites.

I wish you much luck with your bandit-outmaking schemes! Wish I could come up with something for similar reasons (Anime Blues Con is coming up near me!); money never goes amiss, especially since I'm looking into moving.

Is selling 3D Homestuck stuff now officially disapproved? Buggerall! I was so hoping to find a knitted Terezi & Dave to go with my knitted Karkat... *le sigh* I guess someone who had one could make out like a bandit by selling me theirs... :D

Thank you! I am cautiously optimistic about my money-making chances at AI, but will take all the luck I can get regardless.

For over a year, alas :/ Here's the official info. And I had such a huge stockpile of magnetic mini-Squiddles at the time, too! Luckily I managed to trade a bunch of them for cool things at the AI swap meet last year, but I'm still disappointed.

Alas, indeed. D: Oh, well, I guess; not much to be done as far as protesting that goes. (Though frankly I think the 'cosplay items' restriction is particularly ridiculous - they admit that that covers an enormous range of stuff, including some things it'd be almost impossible to copyright, yet are still trying to forbid it? Yeah, I'm sure you have all the copyrights to purple capes, zodiac jewelry, pink headbands, and furry ears! Good luck with that.)

I bet your mini-Squiddles were really cool; they sound adorable! Glad you at least found something to do with them, however disappointing.

I know, right? I mean, I'm reasonably sure I could find a lawyer who could make a good case for me as far as Fair Use goes, but taking on AH is the social equivalent of shooting myself in the foot, which: No, thank you. Also, I have no money for a lawyer. (SO true. I mean, I'm sure he's mostly trying for horns and stuff, but a lot of that stuff? Not gonna work. Also, I'm pretty sure that iron-on shirt transfers could conceivably count as 2D commissions.)

Full disclosure: I totally ignore the "Not for charity" thing. Why? Because for the charity events I participate in, I NEVER TOUCH THE MONEY, electronically or otherwise. Money goes straight from donor to charity, I look at receipt (or a mod looks at the receipt and passes on that the info is good), I provide agreed-upon donation incentive, everyone goes home happy.)

Pictorial evidence! They were like gold in the swap meet, which was satisfying. I may have to make more this year, if only so I can trade them!
