I just remembered why wooden crochet hooks are probably personally sub-optimal: Because of that one time I crocheted so much with a plastic crochet hook that I wore right through the "hook" part. I ended up with a pointy stick and a little extra plastic nubbin. Probably one of my more significant crochet flexes to date, I'd have to say. My current favorite crochet hook is aluminum, and while I've worn most of the color off of it, the hook is still firmly attached. If I manage to break this one, that'll be something to brag about indeed!
Still, I do like the look and feel of wooden crochet hooks. It won't hurt to have a few in my collection, just for fun.
