Discovered a large bruise at the base of my thumb today. Honestly, it explains some of the random bits of pain I've been feeling better than the stitches. Not sure if it happened at the same time as the inciting incident or if came about because of treatment or just how I've been moving my hand since, but I suppose it doesn't matter much.

I am feeling some numbness at the site of the stitches. It might be nerve damage, which, honestly? If it's a choice between loss of normal sensation and loss of normal movement, I'll pick loss of normal sensation. It wouldn't even be my first experience with nerve damage; I got some when I had my wisdom teeth removed, which is why the idea comes to mind: I'm comparing sensations. It's been over ten years since the wisdom tooth nerve damage, so I'm definitely not remembering everything 100% accurately, but there are some similar feelings.

Of course, it could also very well be something else entirely, probably innocuous. I am also getting occasional twinges and so forth as well.

I have discovered that using scissors is a No-No with this business, since my stitches are basically exactly where the thumb piece usually sits; sadly, this did not stop me from a couple of crafty endeavors today 😅 I did experiment with using my pointer finger in place of my thumb, and the end of my thumb rather than the lower joint, as well as with buying "ambidextrous" scissors from Joann's (a very short experiment). I think I will be doing my best to experiment with not scissors for at least a week going forward, though. This means that I'll be looking into alternate gifts for the niblings, but whatever; not the end of the world. I can finish making giant plush books another time.

Ouch! I hope the numbness is not actually nerve damage, though it does sound like it could be. (Though I agree - I'd rather lose sensation than functionality.) I can't imagine trying to use scissors with stitches... eesh, that does sound terrible!

Whenever I have some reason I CAN'T do a thing - injury, time, lost access to materials - that's when I find I most want to do something!

Congrats on getting the Xmas gift completed!
