So I got a postcard today informing me that I made the Dean's List?

Someone explain how proud I should be of this. It's a community college, and I only took two classes this summer, but that's also after having taken no classes for eleven years and with ADHD, so.

Like, I'm on board with being pleasantly chuffed, but is this a "Go out to dinner at a reasonably fancy restaurant to celebrate" kind of situation, a "Brag to all my friends and relatives" situation, or what?

(My parents are very proud, and insisted I put the postcard on the fridge. My mom also confided in me that she never made the Dean's List when she was in school, even once. And she did go to a junior college, but she also went to an actual university, so. Data point not entirely helpful.)

Honestly even when I went to a major university whenever I got stuff I wouldn't even bother with a nice dinner for myself, but the world being what it is you gotta celebrate whatever.

I honestly don't remember if I made the dean's list but I got cum laude and PBK so it seems kind of similar.

Well, I don't have any familiarity from the concept, but reading some articles, it seems that it's an indication that you've worked quite hard, and it might help you with career opportunities? So I think it falls in the "brag about it to people" category, especially since you've spent quite a while out of school!

Makes sense to me! My parents take me out for dinner once a month anyway, as thanks for everything I do around the house, so this month I may just ask for an extra fancy location.

Okay, I'll put bragging about it on my to-do list! And/or give my parents the go ahead to brag on my behalf. Seems like Facebook would be the place to do it, but I haven't touched my account there in years, so 😅

I might directly text one particular aunt of mine who helped me decide to go back to school, though.

The thing I personally found about the Dean’s list was that it felt like an achievement the first semester, and declined in excitement with every semester after in which I remained on the list — so celebrate now while its most exciting!

That shouldn't be a problem 😂 I only have this semester left to go for my degree (unless I decide to go back for some reason, and I don't know if community colleges do higher degrees than Associate's), and I'm not sure I'm taking enough credit hours to qualify this time around.

Yeah, I'm not sure if it'd be worth trying to use Facebook just for this... so I'd go with your personal network yourself (not to mention that I think that'd be more satisfying than getting it via Facebook)!
