Crafty update
Mar. 20th, 2014 06:55 pmBlargh. Long day.
* Finished off the last of my mom's crocheted corn order last night. She ordered fifty of the little so-and-sos. I don't want to make more than two or three at a time for a long while now.
* On Tuesday, attached wings to seven piglets at the weekly crafting party with Steve Todd of Wandering Mail. Steve was kind enough to put nice brass (bronze?) rings in the flying piglets' noses; the eighth already had a silver-colored ring from a previous crafting party. Hopefully eight will be enough for the Quire fundraiser this weekend, though thankfully they're not too difficult to make.
* Speaking of the fundraiser this weekend, I spent this afternoon in food prep and things related to food prep. I bought myself a nice size 40 scoop so I could measure out the sausage hedgehogs appropriately, a couple of ceramic platters shaped like autumn leaves, then prepared the hedgehogs. I got 19 out of the sausage batch, so it's lucky I'm making more on Saturday anyway. I also looked up a simple cheese ball recipe so I could make "vegetarian" hedgehogs; I got 37 out of that. The worst part was finding enough almond slivers for each hedgehog to get nine spines.
* And tonight I still need to bake that Jewish coffee cake, and then at least mise en place for the lean dough recipe. I'll need to think about how much energy I'll have on Saturday between work and the fundraiser, because I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to bake the bread ahead of time. The bread addict in me hates the idea, but I've managed to narrow the time down to making the bread only one day before it's going to be served, and I can warm it up in the oven before it goes out. That should be a reasonable compromise.
Bluh. Off to the coffee cake, and then to sleep. I've work in the morning tomorrow, after all.
Edit: Looks like mise en place for the bread may have to wait until tomorrow as well. I dirtied all the bowls of appropriate size today in my various culinary activities. Ah, well. At least the Jewish coffee cake is done - and it smells divine, just so y'all know. Totally nabbing myself a piece before the fundraiser. Perks of being the baker and all ;)
