Switched speech topic from "Why You Should Switch to Firefox" over to "Why You Should Learn Esperanto", because the former was giving me a headache to try and write. Esperanto speech is going much more smoothly! I still need to write the conclusion, but that's just one paragraph, and I've already got all of my sources listed and embedded as well.

...I should make an Esperanto Dreamsheep. And pick Esperanto back up in general. I remembered what I know better than I was expecting, but I really do want to know this language well.

Edit: Speech is (tentatively) complete! I just want to extract it from the template and give it a good look over for flow and so forth, and then it should be good to go. Thank goodness.

Congratulations on having finished this (even if you had to work into the night to do so)! I can certainly see why you had trouble, given how tight that template is.

(As for an Esperanto Dreamsheep, I think we can always use more Dreamsheep!)

There is so little wiggle room in that template! So little! And what's even worse, the class textbook's discussion of the format said there's no evidence to suggest that it's a more effective format for persuasive arguments than other methods. The only thing the textbook had to say in support of it is that it organizes information very well, which can help understanding, and like. I can see why a teacher would want to rely on it for that reason? But dear sweet Maude, for some of us, it's holding us back.

Yeah, looking at it, I can understand why it's supposed to organise information well, and I certainly think it might help some people due to the structure it gives... but for myself, it rather comes across like "here's 25 things to check your speech on once you've written it", which wouldn't exactly motivate me. Beyond that, I think that the distinction between "Satisfaction/Solution" and "Transition" can certainly be blurred in some cases, and improvising a bit certainly can't hurt.

(And, having read Homestuck myself, I certainly appreciate your Homestuck Dreamsheep. :p)

...🤦‍♀️ See, even that would've been better than what I was doing, which was literally writing sentences next to the "prompt" part. Makes it very easy to grade when I turn it in, I'm sure, but treating it as a post-writing checklist probably still would've been easier. If I'm not constrained to the order given by the template, I can do more interesting things!

Well, whatever, it's written now, I don't have to care beyond turning it in.

Ah yes, I get where you're coming from (though writing it first would at least fix the "how to weld everything together" problem...). Oh well, you don't have to care any more!

Oh, it absolutely is! (And that had me wonder when you'd last used that icon as the main one for such a post; the last candidate I could find was this one back in 2021. That reminds me of myself, since I only use my icons for such purposes in comments, and almost never in posts; I use them for RP purposes in the other cases.)

Thanks! It's been a bit since I studied any, but this has made me want to pick it up again 😂

There are some options, yes; I'm planning to look into one that I'd initially dismissed, as it was a bit more on the social side and I was struggling mightily with social anxiety at the time.

Can't say that I have, no. IIRC, it's pretty heavily influenced by Eastern European languages, and possibly also Hebrew, since Zamenhof was Jewish.

Esperanto Dreamsheep is a go! I made a couple of other variations, before deciding I liked this one (the first) after all.

Yeah, it's been a while 😅 Incidentally, I've got sheep for all twelve aspects; they're available for use by anyone if you want to poke around on dreamsheep.

Ooh, I really like it, too! (And I see some other people with "Esperanto" interests, so I think it might find a broader public!) For myself... I haven't got too much space for icons, but now that I think about it, I might just grab a Dreamsheep for my default!
