Taste in Sci-Fi
Aug. 25th, 2009 08:21 pmSome of you may have noticed that my interest and involvement in Sci-Fail has been going on for a while now. Back in the first half of the year, there was the spectacular horrible that was RaceFail '09; at the beginning of the month, there was the Mammoth Manthology (which I hadn't yet touched on, actually); and, most recently (that I'm aware of) has been GateFail. (There have been others that were less publicized, but still horribly offensive.)
What all of this together means is that I've been thinking more deeply about what I actually like in Speculative Fiction as a whole. Not just the diversity (or lack thereof), but also the stories I like to see told. And the series I tend to enjoy on Siffy seem to follow a ( certain pattern )
So, while I'm alreadymostly over Siffy, finding a different series that fits my basic taste profile would help cut the cord, as it were. Sadly, I don't think I'm ever going to find a show that fits all my diversity requirements (Avatar comes the closest, but did, sadly, fall down on GLBTQIA, Fat Acceptance, and Incidentals-who-are-ladies - although I can't say I expected much from Nick re: the first especially), and especially not while also fitting my interesting-premise profile. Even if I did find a show that works, it's doubtful it'd be on the few remaining cable channels we have.
I guess my next steps are to 1) search the internet, or 2) make my own.
Here's hoping that choice the first yields results before I'm forced to default to choice the second -_-a
