soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
(Cross-posted from Tumblr.)

For anyone who has trouble coming up with titles, here's the trick I use:

Start with an important element from the story. Then, think about things that are related to that element, especially phrases and puns. Keep going until you have something that feels at least a little right.

Examples:

Adrien eats some magic cheese and turns into an actual feline, but still has patrol with Ladybug? How about, uh, The Catification of Adrien Agreste, or Felis Domesticus (implying that Cat Noir is a domestic animal), or wait, what's that meme again? That's it! Love is Stored in the Cat!

A blanket scenario where Marinette needs to cuddle Cat Noir so he doesn't get sick from being too cold? Something with blankets, something with covers, hah, covers, he's trying to keep his identity secret, so he's under cover, but will also be under blankets, as in covers—that's it! Under Cover(s)!

Hmm, this one hinges on using a wishbone to make a wish, except it's a Lucky Charm; Splitsville, maybe? Since they're splitting the wishbone in half, and also splitting their identities (depending on interpretation)? Wait, I should look up whether that's even a thing in Europe, never mind France. Oh hey, looks like it probably is! And it was called something else back in the day? Well, it doesn't have quite the punch of Splitsville, I think, but I love it as an obscure detail too much not to go with it. Merrythought it is! (Note: I'm pretty sure a lot of people skipped out on this fic because I went with the obscure title rather than the one that had more punch, so think hard about how much presentation means to you.)

And so forth.

Dunno how well it works for original fiction, but it might be worth a shot.
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep, its wool colored black and shot through with five diagonal colored lines (red, yellow, white, blue, and green, from left to right), the design from Dreamwidth user capri0mni's Disability Pride flag. The Dreamwidth logo is in red, yellow, white, blue, and green, echoing the stripes. (Disability Pride)
Comments on the Autistic!Grinch fic that I wrote for [personal profile] alexseanchai are really reinforcing the fact that "Disabled person gets their happy ending not by being made to do things the abled way, but by getting accommodations" is a story that really needs more telling. (Important note: For people with chronic pain, for example, "accommodations" is allowed to take the form of a magical cure of some variety, whereas for autistic folks, by contrast, accommodations might be neurotypical people doing things their way for once.) Naturally, my ADHD brain took one look at "happily-ever-after", and, of course, rushed to connect it to fairy tale retellings 😛

My first thought was a Cinderella who can't walk unaided for very long, and for whom climbing stairs can mean being stuck in bed for at least the next day. More spaghetti throwing under the cut, with a Content Warning for ablist dipshittery )

Other ideas so far are not nearly as well-developed.

* I'm thinking Beauty and the Beast where Beauty is either blind or Deaf? (I'm leaning towards blind, gotta be honest, but Deaf has potential as well.) Her dad picked the rose because it smelled heavenly, and was a very pretty color that he hadn't seen on a lot of roses. (Maybe Beauty has a gardening hobby and her dad stole an entire clipping?) When he tells her what happened at the Beast's castle and that the Beast is going to make him stay there forever as repayment for the theft of the rose/clipping, Beauty's like, Pfft, fuck that! I'll go. It won't matter to me how hideous this beast is, I can barely see more than blotchy colors anyway! While at the castle, she finds out that the castle's magic is very accommodating to her blindness, and the spirits or whatever are great at helping her navigate, and the magic can even read books to her! The Beast catches her attention when he stops being so much of a jerk and starts doing what he can to make it even easier for her to get around the castle, etc. (I'm kinda tempted to make the Beast autistic? But I'm very worried about the whole "Love is a cure for his beastliness!" thing and how to approach it so that it's not gross.)

* Snow White with chronic pain. Maybe the queen gets rid of her because negotiating with the country that supplied one of the chief ingredients for her pain meds was getting in the way of her agenda? Snow White somehow makes it to the home of the seven dwarves, who are pharmacists experimenting with various plants; they've got an apple tree whose fruit is even better for Snow White's pain than whatever the previous thing was. Wipes it completely out as long as she has one a day! And that's how it keeps the doctor away 😉 Not sure why the queen would target Snow White again, but she swaps out one of Snow's regular anti-pain apples for one that is supposed to kill her or something, only the dwarves are able to wrangle something at the last minute to put Snow in magical stasis instead. From there they work on a cure, possibly getting into contact with the country that supplied Snow's previous pain meds for help. Snow wakes up and makes the dwarves the official kingdom pharmacists, and makes sure that the anti-pain apples are available far and wide. Maybe also the apples also have a very slow curative effect, so after a few years of eating one a day she might not need them at all? And maybe not knowing to account for that is part of why Snow was not outright killed by the poisoned apple? Hmm.

* An alternate Snow White option might be Diabetic!Snow White, who gets put into a diabetic coma by the queen. Super Pharma Dwarves stay, though.

* Food Intolerance/Allergies Sleeping Beauty, maybe? In this case, she's not cursed, but the fairies reveal her intolerance at her birth, and the specific foodstuff is banished from the castle. Like Snow White, her sleeping ailment strikes when some appears at the castle and she takes a bite of it. (Assassination attempt, maybe?)

*I'm passingly aware of an actual, extant fairy tale about a girl who is fitted with magic silver prosthetic hands and marries a king, but it's been an age and a half since I read it.

Anyway, lots to think about.

Funky new Christmas headcanon/story idea: Santa isn't a name, it's a title. Which is why it's Santa-and-Mrs (or Mr or Mx) Claus.

(No, Brain, I will not be expanding on that just now, thank you.)

Flyndon McFladden-Flavor* Denies His Deities For the Day

* Or some other highly alliterative name, probably staring with F or F-sounds. (Edit: Flendlemeyer? Hmm.)

Probable premise: Through a series of unlikely coincidences, Flyndon is the Chosen One of, like, seventeen different gods. Every single day is the religious observance of at least one of the deities he represents, and frequently more than one. Every once in a while, Flyndon takes a day for himself. (Usually the days that every single god has an observance.)

(that I absolutely am going to write for once):

The biggest lie Adrien Agreste ever told was, "I'm fine."

Current plan is 5+1. I will be trying to minimize the angst, because that's just who I am, but it'll probably be at least two of the first five things, not gonna lie. (The Plus One will absolutely be schmoop, though.)
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Default)
Me last night: Okay, I need to be up extra early tomorrow because the weather is being obnoxious again and I am overly cautious, so tonight I am actually going to turn out the light at a reasonable hour.

Bedtime: *approaches*

Me: *manages to get the light out shortly after 8pm*
Me: UGH I am so tired, but I made it! I managed it! Hooray!

Brain: Hey.

Me: ...yes?

Brain: You need something to think about while you're falling asleep, right?

Me: ...that is our usual arrangement, yes.

Brain: Cool! *ahem*
Brain: "Facilitators: An exploration of the cultural history and knowledge of Betas and their role in triggering heat and rut cycles"

Me: ...what

Brain: "Contrary to centuries of popular belief, Omega heats and Alpha ruts are neither wholly random, nor entirely cyclical; instead, they are frequently triggered by exposure to Beta pheromones. In this essay I will--"

Me: What

Brain: Oh man, it would be super cool, right? Like, there have been studies done, and when segregated in to groups of only Alphas and Omegas with no Betas, their ruts and heats do turn cyclical but only occur, like, twice a year, whereas in a group mixed with Betas they seem like they happen randomly but are actually triggered whenever A's and O's spend a significant amount of time around a B who finds them sexually attractive (more details to follow).

Brain: And obviously different cultures figured this out at different rates, but the ancient Greeks and Romans were kinda shitheads about stuff, and Europe mostly adopted their ideas during the Renaissance, and then European colonialism, so.

Brain: Oooo, and then we can talk about the interplay of gender and sexuality in a society with six primary sexes! (Also intersex people, because we are absolutely not going to forget them. They will henceforth be known as Deltas, because yes.) And the dynamics of being trans and dysphoria are completely different, though I'm going to point-blank decide that hormone therapy in this universe is very effective and super easy to acquire and take, and also pretty well accepted in most places, because the genders are a lot more mixed and better acknowledged than they are here.

Brain: Also there are absolutely ace and aro folks whose identities are influenced by heats and ruts. Like, there are people who feel no sexual and/or romantic attraction at all, except when in heat/rut (or spending a partner's heat/run with them), and vice-versa, as well as all the variations we know in our world, including never experiencing sexual and/or romantic attraction.

Brain: ...Are you taking notes? Because this is important.

Me: *whimpers* I just want to sleep!

---

(My brain didn't actually get into this much detail until the drive home today, but it was still a helluva thought train to be hit by on the way to catch some Z's.)
soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
Brain: Hey. Him and Me and You and Her is at 491 kudos. We might hit 500 by the end of the week. Heck, we might hit it by the end of tomorrow.

Me: Hmm. I still wanna do something to celebrate if I hit that, but taking prompts is not looking great. I have no idea how to advertise that I'm doing that, since I'm mostly keeping my fandom stuff on DW, or how many people would be willing to respond over here even if I did. Maybe I could post something new, include it in the end notes?

Brain: That thing you wrote based on that one post by [tumblr.com profile] thescuttlebugg is finished.

Me: Yeah, but I'm not happy with it. And it's going to take a lot of work before I am happy with it, even if it is readable as it is.
Me: As for my other WIPs, I'm not posting any of Metamour or Less to AO3 until it's complete, the animal transformation fic is still only in outline stages and will take a good while to finish, and anything else I've thought about is just. Not getting anywhere any time soon.

Brain: How about a trope, then.

Me: Hmm. Maybe. What've you got?

Brain: There was only one bed?

Me: I mean, I could, but I'm not getting anything for it.

Brain: Well, how about one we haven't seen in a while: a good, old-fashioned Blanket Scenario.

Me: ...You have my attention.

Brain: Great! Here's a brief outline for one from Adrien's POV.

Me: Mnnn. Not that I don't like it, but I feel like I've been writing a lot of Adrien POV recently, and kinda want to do a bit more Marinette - or even someone else.

Brain: Okay, we can do that. *tweaks a few details* How's this?

Me: I mean, I like it, but we both know how seriously Marinette takes the whole identity thing. I'm sure she'd try to come up with some way to avoid finding out to the best of her abilities, and while we can do that, it's also slightly less fun.

Brain: Well. What if there's spooning? She'd have to be the big spoon, too, for most effective warming-up.
Brain: And while this would keep her from learning the identity of pretty much anyone else you can think of...

Me: Okay, I'm tentatively in. I'll start looking up stuff tomorrow.
Me: Right now, though, more sleep.

Just woke up from a super cool heist dream. I can remember the basics, but I'm not actually sure how developed the rest of it was?

Anyway, here's what I remember: Cut for details )
soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
Me: Crap, I need a villain to target MC's BFF for this fic. What am I going to make him?

Brain: How about
Brain: A Nice Guy themed villain 8D
Brain: You could call him Fiendzone
Brain: And the evil thing controlling him could be in his fedora 8D 8D 8D

Me: ...I hate and love you in equal measure, and I'm doing it.

Con idea

soc_puppet: [Homestuck] God tier "Mind" themed Dreamsheep (Sheep of Mind)
Just had the best idea for the con!

So, our con's mother organization has a game library to share between the various conventions, right? And it has various board games and tabletop games and card games and so forth that attendees can "check out" with some collateral or something (I need to review this a bit).

And we also have the Quiet Room running, which is a great place to unwind for a bit when you're over-stimulated.

And I thought, hey! Wouldn't it be great to have some stim toys in the Quiet Room? Except the Quiet Room is, by necessity, quiet, and a lot of the stim toys I'm aware of make subtle but definite noises. (Zipper noises, clicking, clinking, etc.) (Though if I can find some silent ones, all the better! I know there are some weight things that could work, but something to keep your hands busy; hmm...)

HOWEVER. From what I'm aware, things are usually relatively quiet and/or uncrowded in the Tabletop Gaming Room, but no one needs it really silent. (I will definitely be double-checking this, of course.) If I talked with the head of Tabletop Gaming, I might be able to arrange to set up a Stim Toy Library in there, so people who need something to stim with but don't necessarily have anything with them for whatever reason can go there and check something out for a while.

I seriously think this could work out, and pretty well. It needs more thought, but I just came up with it this morning, so it hasn't been incubating long. There is definitely potential here.
soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
More of what happens in my brain when I'm alone at work all day. Possible bonus for deciding to listen to classical music instead of my longtime playlist. (Stimulates my brain, but largely without the distraction of words I can understand and will sing along with.)

Cut for mention of various creepy-crawlies )
soc_puppet: Words "Creative Process" in purple (Creative Process)
These are plot bunnies I'm not going to get to immediately but still want to talk about because otherwise they will keep hopping around my brain and misery is better with company. They're mostly Teen Wolf these days, because what even is my life, but there's a few other fandoms as well.

Yarncraft fics )

And that's all I have at the moment, which is way more than enough, really. Well, all the fanfiction plunnies I have, at any rate.

Crafts

soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (I suck at crafts)
Finally got around to demolishing that discarded copy of Twilight and turning it into art. By now I've got the hands of Mary-Sue completed, plus the book she'll be reading, in addition to the head, but the head is all I've got a picture of at the moment.

Mary-Sue seen here )

Other things I am planning/hoping to make in the near future:
- Plush kodamas, with heads that really spin and rattle! (I have not yet figured out a way to make them jerk/click into place as they do in the movie, but hey! Spinning and rattling!)
- Yarn-and-pipecleaner pompon soot sprites, with googley eyes
- More anime/recycled manga purses; I'm planning on making at least a few with old Pokémon cards, too :3
- Wall-E and Eve earrings ♥ They'd have to be tiny, but they'd probably be worth it. Socute!

AAaaand that's all I can think of right now. Pictures of things forthcoming as I make them.
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Excellent)
We're supposed to write a one-page essay on a modern child's hero for Culture and Technology, as inspired by Thomas De Zengotita's Mediated. Except I really hate the book, as every time I read it I feel like the author is trying to force-feed me bullshit, complete with spoon and nose-pinching. (I, in turn, spit it back in his face. Gimme back my strained carrots!) So instead, have an essay on why Mark Twain/Samuel Clemens is -not- actually my hero, and was never really my hero in the first place!

The Death of a Never Hero )

...I think that may have come off more sourly than I intended it to. Oh, well! Gotta have fun with classwork sometimes, yanno?

I am totally blaming my mood on hormones when I feel better. I swear.
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (Glick for Pope)
Have I mentioned that I am a terrible person lately? Because I am.

With that out of the way, I hope everyone in the US knows that tonight is caucus night in Iowa, my state of residence! Which means I won't be on tonight, as I'll be at a local elementary school, participating in the democratic process! (Related note, I need to review my ancient Greek government philosophies/concepts, orz.)

That being the case (and me still being "undecided" at the moment as I've not gone and done my research yet, uh oops? (@#$%#$E!!! phone calls >:E)), and with The Daily Show not providing Indecision 2008 for the time being (I side with the writers but still want this to be over already), I have decided to do a photo manip.

I also fully blame Anime Club, because that's where the idea got lodged in my brain.

Cut for GetBackers character campaign sign manip - click it anyway )

And now, I'm off to play a Candidate Match game.

And also a little bit of whining, but that'll be over with after just another sentence or two. First day of classes at CR campus, which is large and confusing, and I think I like the IC campus better; also, the IC campus comp labs have not yet changed their schedule to read "8:00 AM to 10:00 PM", leading me to believe that the 8:00-8:00 thing is somewhat more permanent than I at first thought and would like. So, boof. Whining over, yay!

And I end it there. Want to update before my time completely runs out anyway. Note to self: make artsy icon.

Edit: *tags the hell out of the entry* Ell oh ell.

Edit 2: Holy figs and pudding, there's a lite version of Morton's List! And it's freeeeeee.... o_o *...downloads* Someone buy me the complete book, or even the box set or something! Maybe for my birthday?
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (CLAMP -is- the Good Crack)
Hooray, finally finished the CLAMP hurts Lyzz manip!

It can be found under here in both .jpg and .png formats )

On a completely different note, Lyzz, there is a post that is relevant to your interests up on [livejournal.com profile] pornandkittens.
soc_puppet: Dreamsheep as Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time (CFUD doesn't like me ;_;)
Yeah, so, uh, CFUD related post here, just a heads up to non-fans. Also, don't be too surprised if a lot of my posts over the next few days tend to focus on either cleaning or CFUD, since that's where my mind is likely to be for a while, given the circumstances.

Info and Srs Poll under this cut )

Edit: Aaaand, posted (locked) about it. I'm not sure if negative comments or a ringing silence would be better. ...Also, it might've been a better idea to make that post when the computer lab isn't about to close in ten minutes.
